MCA Framework for Supporting Your Behaviour Support Plan

Purpose

At MCA, our goal is to make sure that your Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is followed in the best way possible. We are here to ensure that your rights are respected, your goals are met, and you receive the quality care you deserve. While we are not Behaviour Support Practitioners and do not develop BSPs, we are committed to implementing your plan effectively when it’s in place and ensuring that restrictive practices are only used as part of an authorised BSP.

Key Objectives

  • Ensure Behaviour Support Plans are followed properly and effectively.
  • Continuously monitor and adjust the plan to meet your changing needs and goals.
  • Minimise and work towards removing restrictive practices where possible.
  • Ensure your plan respects your human rights and dignity.
  • Comply with NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission standards.
  1. Putting Your Behaviour Support Plan into Action
  • Qualified Practitioners: Behaviour Support Plans are developed by qualified, NDIS-approved behaviour support practitioners, not by our team.
  • Plan Integration: When your BSP is in place, all team members involved in your care are trained to follow it carefully.
  • Documentation: Your BSP is stored securely and shared only with those who need to know, ensuring that all records are updated and maintained.
  1. Monitoring Your Behaviour Support Plan
  • Ongoing Monitoring: We regularly check in to ensure that the strategies in your BSP are helping reduce any behaviours of concern. This includes meetings with your Behaviour Support Practitioner.
  • Real-Time Documentation: Our team documents important events right away and shares updates with you and your support network within 48 hours. This helps us quickly adjust support strategies as needed.
  • Restrictive Practices: If your plan involves restrictive practices, we monitor them closely to make sure they’re used properly, only when necessary, and with appropriate authorisation.
  1. What Happens If There is No Authorised Behaviour Support Plan

If a Behaviour Support Plan is not yet in place or is under review, we cannot implement any restrictive practices. In the interim, we focus on providing positive, supportive strategies that promote your wellbeing and respect your choices. Our team can assist in coordinating with a Behaviour Support Practitioner to ensure that a plan is developed as quickly as possible, so we can implement a tailored approach to your care.

  1. Reviewing Your Behaviour Support Plan
  • Regular Reviews: Your BSP is reviewed at least every 12 months, or sooner if there are significant changes in your circumstances. During these reviews, we involve you, your family, and your support network to make sure the plan is always up to date and working well for you.
  • Data-Driven Updates: We use feedback, behavioural data, and incident reports to inform any changes that need to be made to your plan.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommendations from reviews are quickly acted upon to ensure your care continues to meet your evolving needs.
  1. Managing Restrictive Practices
  • Compliance with Authorisations: We can only use restrictive practices when they are part of an authorised Behaviour Support Plan. We ensure all practices are authorised and properly documented.
  • Reduction Strategies: We focus on strategies to reduce or eliminate restrictive practices over time and train our team in positive, non-restrictive alternatives.
  1. Training and Competency of Our Staff
  • Training Program: Our staff is trained to understand and support your BSP, with a strong focus on reducing restrictive practices and offering positive, supportive care.
  • Competency Checks: We regularly assess staff competencies to ensure that you are always receiving the best care. Training records are kept up-to-date and ready for audits.
  1. A Participant-Centred Approach
  • Involvement: While we don’t create BSPs, we make sure that you and your family are always involved in the process of reviewing and monitoring your plan. Your preferences and needs are always respected.
  • Advocacy: If you need help making sure your voice is heard, we offer advocacy support.
  1. Compliance and Continuous Improvement
  • Internal Audits: We regularly audit our practices to ensure compliance with NDIS requirements and look for ways to improve.
  • Feedback Mechanisms: We welcome feedback from you, your family, and our staff to help us enhance the way we support you.
  • Record Keeping: We keep all records related to your BSP, training, and reviews securely stored, in line with NDIS regulations.
